This story in short:

As we start the new year with our new theme of Self-Care, it’s also an opportunity to celebrate the year that was, all the connections we made, and resources we created.

Our Crafts, Sports and Hobbies review

In the last half of 2025 we explored AT for Sports, Crafts and Hobbies. Check out the resources we co-produced with the AT user community below, and who knows, maybe you’ll find a new craft or sport you’d like to try!

Dear Chatterbox

We started by reaching out to our community to ask if there was a hobby that you’d love to get into but were facing barriers to getting started. We pulled together the questions, and responses from our team on the ‘Dear AT Chatterbox: AT for Hobbies’ article.

Kerrie and Martin’s AT for crafting

Next, we popped over to visit long- time AT Chatters, Kerrie and Martin, to explore what AT they use to connect with crafts and hobbies, and what craft and community mean for them.

Finding belonging on the field

One of our highlights in AT Chat is getting to meet amazing people doing what they love, and our video series definitely delivered that! We started by meeting the Perth SC Blind Football Team on a cloudy October morning, as they practiced and celebrated the end of the season, and showed us the AT they use to help them kicking goals.

Welcome to Wheelnutz

Then over in Queensland we checked out the team at Wheelnutz Garage, a workshop where a passion for motorsports and learning can fit together. Over the two-part series, we met members of the team and learned about how they use AT to work and learn.

Share your joy with AT Chat!

As we headed into the end of the year, we celebrated International Day of People with Disability, by holding our first ever PowerPoint Party, on the theme ‘Share your Joy.’ The event, sponsored by DDWA: Opens in new window though a Department of Communities Grant which allowed us to provide a captioner as well as Auslan interpreters, brought together community members who may not usually be able to attend events, so we could share what makes us happy, from sensory glimmers to almond croissants.

AT for Christmas

Just before we signed off for the end of the year, we shared a Christmas wish list for the sports, hobbies and craft loving AT users in your life. Even though Christmas has passed, it could inspire you for upcoming birthdays, or you may just want to treat yourself 😉
