Meet the Perth SC Blind Football team, who show that with community and assistive technology, you can find a place to belong.
On a cloudy morning in October, the AT Chat Team headed down to watch a special match with the Perth SC Blind Football Team. Despite the threat of rain and the early hour, the team were full of energy and joy, ducking and diving and calling out to each other as they sent the adapted soccer ball hurtling across the field.
In the following video you'll meet the team, and hear from team members Ben, McKenzie and Loc, as they share what the sport means to them and how AT helps them to keep kicking goals.
ID symbol canes are designed to be held in front of the user when walking as a way of identifying to others that the user is blind or has low vision.
This audible soccer ball has magnets inside that produce a loud rattling sound when the ball is in motion.
Eyeshades provide a total light blackout which restricts the vision of all athletes and ensures fair play for all.
