Hard copy notes
In her co-design and advocacy work Kelly has been asked to facilitate and present at various events, and while she has the knowledge, information and experience to share, she finds free speaking intimidating.
“With my disability I can’t multitask, so if I need to smile out at the group and then look down at notes on a screen I’ll lose my place and get lost,” she says.
What works for her instead is hardcopy notes. “If I’m getting documents I ask for them in size 18 font, with a light blue background. I find the text contrast with the light blue background works so much better for me than the white background, which is blinding.”
Back rest
Kelly needs to have neck support when sitting to function comfortably, so having a back rest that she can take with her, means that she can get work done where and when she needs to.

Mobile phone
Another example of AT that she uses is her phone, which she uses to record herself prior to presentation, so that she can finetune the timing to keep to the required presentation length, and make sure she’s getting her story across. She also uses Google Calendar and colour coding to keep track of what she needs to do, as well as notifications and reminders.
