This story in short:

My name is Lindsay Nott, and I was born and grew up in Brisbane, Australia. I obtained a spinal cord injury a number of years ago which sees me get around on 4 wheels instead of 2 legs! My injury hasn't stopped me from making the most out of this beautiful life. I'd call myself an explorer because I love traveling and adventures!

Lindsay's story

My journey began on the last day of grade 12 at the age of 17 when I went for a celebratory swim at Southbank, Brisbane, and broke my neck at vertebrae C5. My world changed at this point in my life and whilst in hospital, recovering from my injury, my family and I learnt a lot, and the big learning curve continued after I was released.

Over the last 30 years, I have done public speaking at universities, conferences, fundraisers, and within health care settings. I also work part-time, travel, attend the gym and volunteer as a peer support mentor for the newly injured and their families.

Since my accident I have learnt so much and love to share some of my tips and tricks with you. I am an advocate for disability awareness and my goal is to help people and their families who are in similar situations as well as healthcare professionals.

Sharing my journey with AT

Assistive Technology comes in all shapes and sizes. As a person who lives with a high-level spinal cord injury, I share my journey of living life on four wheels instead of two legs. I share my journey through my YouTube channel: Opens in new window , website: Opens in new window  and Instagram: Opens in new window , from a daily activity, to holidays, and even at the gym.

My GoPro: Opens in new window , which my support workers can clip it onto the side of my chair, allows me to complete a video from my perspective. I can either have it set to timelapse for long distance, driving, or video mode for more impact, and grab that moment. The GoPro can be easily swapped through to a different mount, allowing my support worker to fill in the action, and grab the footage from a higher perspective.

Some of the best features I find is that it has voice control, syncs easily to my iPhone: Opens in new window  and I can easily grab footage through the app during the day. When I return home, I can upload this footage and start making the vlogs."
